BRNO, May 26 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic has said that a long-term solution of Kosovo's status is an issue of crucial importance for permanent stability in the region and it is in the interest of everybody to have a fair and acceptable solution both for Belgrade and Pristina.

Addressing the Central European Summit's plenary session in Brno on Saturday, the Croatian head of state said that a blueprint made by the UN special envoy for Kosovo, Martti Ahtisaari, was important for efforts aimed at seeking a final solution that would pave the way for faster democratic development of both Kosovo and Serbia.

Kosovo was one of major topics of the Brno summit meeting that gathered heads of state of 15 central European countries.

In his speech at the final day of the two-day 14th CEI summit, Mesic also commented on the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia.

Mesic described the Serb Radical Party and its platform as dangerous, but expressed hope that after the last elections Serbia would keep going in a democratic direction.

The Croatian president described the situation in Bosnia as complex urging for a long-term high-quality solution of the situation in that country.

Stabilisation and association process has brought a favourable wind in the region. The process advocates individual approach as well as the obligation for countries in the region to cooperate, Mesic said, among other things, at the second plenary session of the Brno event.

Earlier on Saturday on the margins of the Brno event, Mesic held talks with his Slovak counterpart Ivan Gasparovic who said that Croatia was surely the next member of the European Union.
