ZAGREB, April 4 (Hina) - The UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague on Wednesday sentenced a former Bosnian Serb soldier and military police officer to 15 years in prison for torturing and raping Muslim women in Foca, a town southeast of Sarajevo.

Dragan Zelenovic was transferred to The Hague on 10 June 2006, and on 17 January 2007 he entered a guilty plea.

He pleaded guilty to seven charges of raping and torturing a number of Muslim women in Foca after Serb forces took control of the town.

Under the indictment, the women were tortured and raped on several locations in Foca in the period from July to October 1992.

The court found him guilty of personally committing nine rapes of women in Serb detention, eight of which qualified as both torture and rape, and four of which were gang rapes.

The trial chamber took into account several mitigating factors, such as Zelenovic's remorse and his guilty plea.
