BANJA LUKA, March 28 (Hina) - The government of Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Serb entity, on Wednesday adopted a decision proclaiming Srebrenica municipality an area of special social and economic significance.

RS Administration and Local Self-Government Minister Zoran Lipovac told the press the entity government had bound all administration bodies, public institutions and companies in which the entity is the majority owner to ensure a balanced employment of the constituent peoples in Srebrenica.

The RS government also bound the entity's Privatisation Audit Commission to audit entity-owned companies in Srebrenica.

All RS ministries, public companies and institutions in which the entity holds the majority capital will immediately start drawing up special social, economic and development projects to be realised in the Srebrenica area and this programme will be completed at the next session, Lipovac said, adding that more than EUR6 million will be spent on the programme.

The RS government also adopted a decision to set up a Centre for Nonviolent Communication in Srebrenica. It will also support activities related to a memorial site for the people of Srebrenica killed in the 1992-95 war.

Last week, Bosnian Muslim councillors in Srebrenica passed a resolution asking that this municipality be separated from the Serb entity and annexed to the other Bosnian entity - the Croat-Muslim Federation.

The international community's High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, condemned the resolution, saying earlier this week that Srebrenica should be given a status such as Vukovar in Croatia as this would provide for the fastest economic and social development.
