President Stjepan Mesic, who attended the opening ceremony, said that this was one in a series of events whereby Croatia confirmed its European identity.
The ceremony was also attended by Croatia's Foreign Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic, and Science and Education Minister Dragan Primorac.
French Ambassador Francois Saint-Paul said the opening of new offices proved that the French Alliance and the French Institute wanted to help Croatia prepare for what he believed was its imminent admission to the EU.
The French Institute has been present in Croatia for 85 years, while the French Alliance, the main place for learning the French language, has been active since 1952.
