In a note sent to the UN court last Friday, defence counsel Veljko Miljevic said his client had paid the 2147,31 euros he owed after the expiry of the deadline set to settle the fine, the tribunal said on Monday.
The tribunal ordered Margetic a week ago to explain by March 16 why he had not paid the full amount of the fine by the March 9 deadline.
Miljevic said his client did not have a permanent income and that the money for the fine had been raised by various associations which failed to collect the full amount by the deadline.
Margetic was convicted on February 7 for revealing the names of protected witnesses on his website. The tribunal gave him one month to pay the fine.
The trial chamber included the 34 days Margetic had spent in custody in Croatia in his prison sentence and ordered him to serve the remainder of the sentence in The Hague as soon as the verdict was handed down.
