ZAGREB, March 19 (Hina) - The Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, received her Indonesian counterpart, Noer Hassan Wirayuda, on Monday.

"Since the establishment of bilateral relations on 3 September 1992, Croatia and Indonesia have developed very good bilateral relations although they are geographically far from each other, and there is a trend of strengthening both their bilateral cooperation as well their cooperation in multilateral organisations and institutions," Grabar Kitarovic told the press after the meeting.

The two ministers agreed that bilateral economic cooperation was relatively modest and that potentials for its promotion had not been used.

We are encouraged with the current situation in the relations between Croatia and Indonesia. It is true that our trade is relatively modest but there are tendencies for its enhancement, the Indonesian Foreign Minister told reporters.

Last year the trade between Indonesia and Croatia amounted to 45 million dollars with a deficit registered by Croatia.

However, Croatia's exports to the Asian country rose 31 percent from 2005 to 2006, the Croatian minister said.

We have signed about ten agreements, including ones on investment protection and double taxation avoidance, which have paved the way for the development of the economic relations, Grabar Kitarovic said.

Sectors for the enhancement of cooperation are transport of Indonesian goods via Croatian seaports to the European market, engagement of Croatian energy companies in Indonesia, the oil industry and shipbuilding.

Hassan Wirayuda invited his Croatian colleague to visit his country, saying that it would further contribute to the excellent relations between Croatia and Indonesia.

Croatian President Stjepan Mesic is due to visit Indonesia this spring.
