Officials of the ministries of the economy and finance and the national Competition Agency and executives of the five state-run shipyards, as well as representatives of the Croatian shipyards' association "Jadranbrod", discussed the implementation of the government's plan for the modernisation of shipyards, the process of issuing collateral for loans to ensure the shipyards' liquidity, and plans for carrying out existing contracts on building ships, Vrankovic said.
The meeting discussed collateral for advance payments which are made by buyers of ships, while collateral is ensured by the government. The issuing of collateral will be possible until the European Commission considers Croatia's plan for the modernisation of shipyards and until the plan goes into force.
In early February the Ivo Sanader cabinet forwarded a draft of the plan to the European Commission.
