The purpose of the seminar, which pooled a large number of Croatian business people and food experts from Cyprus, Italy, Ireland and the Netherlands, is to inform the business community and food producers and distributers about the EU legislation in that sector.
At the beginning of the seminar, Cypriot expert Timos Misseris spoke about the European law on food and animal feed.
The purpose of that law is to guarantee a high level of health security and protection of consumers' interests, both on the EU level and the level of individual countries, and its most important provision is one on the establishment of the European food safety authority, Misseris said.
Apart from the high level of protection of human health and life, animals and the environment, the law also guarantees free movement of food and transparent and objective risk analysis and estimate based on scientific evidence, Misseris said.
The HGK started cooperating with TAIEX in 2005, and so far it has organised numerous seminars and workshops on the fisheries policy, animal feed safety, milk production and the labeling of food products.
