ZAGREB, Feb 17 (Hina) - Croatia is planning to increase turnover in the tourist trade up to two percent and revenues by five percent this year.

At its first session that the task force for preparing this year's tourist season held in Zagreb on Thursday, Sea and Tourism Minister Bozidar Kalmeta reiterated that 2006 had seen a record 10.3 million tourists, which was a four percent rise from 2005.

Foreign holiday-makers accounted for 8.6 million (a two-percent rise), and the number of domestic tourists climbed by 13 percent to 1.7 million.

The revenues from the tourist trade in the first nine months of 2006 came to 5.8 billion euros.

Statistics about the revenues from the entire year will be made public in March.

State Secretary for Tourism, Zdenko Micic, told the session that this year 13.6 billion kuna would be invested in tourism. The Croatian capital is planning to invest 4.8 billion kuna in this sector, and it is followed by Istria County (2.47 billion kuna).

This year, investments in road construction are projected at 5.64 billion kuna, while funds of 72 million kuna are planned for seaports.

Croatia is the country-partner at the forthcoming tourist trade fair in Munich. The CBR fair is scheduled for 22-26 February and Bavarian and Croatian Prime Ministers, Edmund Stoiber and Ivo Sanader, are expected to open the event.
