MOSTAR, Jan 31 (Hina) - The High Representative of the
international community in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, has
accused councillors representing the Bosniak (Muslim) people in the city
council of Mostar of attempts to obstruct the establishment of a functioning
government and has threatened to take necessary measures if they continue
opposing his efforts to overcome problems in this southern city. It
was the first time since the end of the war in 1990s for an international
diplomat to openly rebuke Bosniak officials in Mostar over the obstruction of
efforts to restore the situation to normal.
So far, the finger has been pointed at the Croat side.
The warning by the German diplomat came on Wednesday after the club of
Bosniak councillors sent a letter asking him to reconsider his decision to set
up a think tank that would give expert opinions on construction licences in
certain areas of the city.
Schwarz-Schilling made this final and binding decision last year so as
to prevent unlawful construction in Mostar.
