ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - The government will not accept anything that is in contravention of Croatia's interests, Agriculture and Water Management Minister Petar Cobankovic said during Question Time in parliament on Wednesday responding to a Social Democratic Party deputy about the government's position on the Bosnian Serb entity's plans to build hydroelectric power plants in southern Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Dams and power plants may reduce the influx of water into the Neretva River, which passes through both countries, and will allow sea-water to enter the river.

Today's debate in the parliament was marked by the exchange of sarcastic remarks between SDP deputy Ivica Pancic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader.

Minister Cobankovic recalled that in 1996 the governments of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina had established a joint commission whose bodies are dealing, among other things, with the protection of rivers flowing into the Adriatic Sea.

Croatia has asked for comprehensive documentation regarding the Upper Horizons project, Cobankovic said stressing that Zagreb would not accept anything contrary to the country's interests.
