Cutting the share of sulphur in those fuels is in compliance with requirements of EURO II norms on fuel quality.
So far the allowed maximum content of sulphur has been 1,000 milligrams per kilogram, and now the content of share falls to a maximum 500 milligrams per kilogram.
The share of lead is limited to a maximum 0.005 grams per litre while so far this has been 0.013 grams per litre.
The production of ultra-low sulphur fuel is a result of the overhaul and modernisation of the INA refineries.
This also is in accordance with recommendations of the Croatian Government regarding the enhancement of fuel quality in Croatia
Low sulphur fuel is essentially cleaner for the environment and better for engines. It means fewer particulates (fine sooty emissions), which have been linked to asthma and cancer, and fewer sulphur oxides, which cause acid rain.
