Cathedral dedicated to Mother Teresa inaugurated in Pristina

Autor: mses
PRISTINA, Sept 4 (Hina) - A Catholic cathedral dedicated to Mother Teresa was inaugurated in the centre of Pristina on Saturday, as one of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of this world-known Catholic nun of Albanian descent.

The ceremony was attended by many prominent people from Kosovo and from the international community, including an envoy of Pope Benedict XVI.

Agnes Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, was a Catholic nun of Albanian ethnicity and Indian citizenship who gained international renown for her humanitarian work. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India, in 1950. Mother Teresa was born on 26 August 1910 in Skopje to parents of Kosovo Albanian descent.

Addressing today's ceremony, Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu said that "Albanians who belong to different religions are the best example of harmony and love among people. Mother Teresa is the best picture of Albanian spirit."

The construction of the Mother Teresa Cathedral began in 2005 at the initiative of the then Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova.

Kosovo declared 2010 as the year of Mother Teresa.
