Yet another member leaves HRT Programmes Council

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, Aug 24 (Hina) - The Programmes Council of the Croatian national broadcaster (HRT) has been reduced to six members following the resignation of the council's deputy chairman, Sinisa Grgic, which he tendered due to "direct interference of other media into the judiciary and the judicial proceedings being conducted against him" in a scandal surrounding the "Isle of Knowledge (Otok Znanja)" project.

On Tuesday, Grgic said in a letter he sent to Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic together with the request that he be relieved of duty, that the proceedings against him had been launched without any evidence.

Grgic is deeply convinced that the scandal involving the project is being used only to exert pressure on him.

Grgic and another three people are under investigation on suspicion that they embezzled HRK 4.3 million from the Isle of Knowledge institution. The proceedings were launched by the Dubrovnik office of the Croatian Chief State Prosecutor six months ago.

Before Grgic, another three members of the Programmes Council -- Sanja Modric, Marina Skrabalo and Damir Grubisa -- departed from the body in July in protest over the appointment of Hloverka Novak-Srzic as Croatian Television's (HTV) acting programmes director.
