Presidents of Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro end summit meeting

Autor: mses
PRIZREN, June 26 (Hina) - The presidents of Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro on Saturday wrapped up their two-day regional summit in Prizren, southern Kosovo, expressing conviction that their meeting would contribute to the improvement of their countries' relations and cooperation.

Kosovo's Fatmir Sejdiu, who hosted the event, Albania's Bamir Topi, Macedonia's Gjorge Ivanov and Montenegro's Filip Vujanovic discussed cooperation among their countries at their third summit. The previous two meetings took place in Valona, Albania and in Ohrid, Macedonia.

In Prizren they called on heads of state of other countries in the region, including Serbia, to join them at next summit meetings.

They pointed out the need to deepen cooperation, primarily in economy, free movement of people and goods, the rule of law and in the joint struggle against organised crime.

Regarding free movement of people, the Montenegrin president proposed the establishment of a mini-Schengen regime, following the example set by European Union member-states.

Calling for enabling their citizens to travel without passports, Vujanovic said the differences between countries in western Balkans were "smaller than we think."

"Our similarities can help us to accomplish our European objective," he said.

"The better regional integration, the greater chances are for our faster integration in the European Union," Vujanovic said.

He went on to say that his Kosovo counterpart Sejdiu had given guarantees that Kosovo institutions were willing to amend the legislation on national minorities' rights so that ethnic Montenegrins could exercise the same rights as other communities in Kosovo.

Vujanovic said the amended legislation was a condition for the exchange of ambassadors between those two neighbouring countries.
