SARAJEVO, July 6 (Hina) - Representatives of Bosniak (Muslims) residents of the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica who survived the genocide committed by Serb forces in July 1995, have threatened not to appear at this year's central commemoration of victims of atrocities, scheduled for mid-July.

Representatives of Bosniak associations on Monday met with Bosnia-Herzegovina's minister for human rights and refugees, Safet Halilovic, to inform him that they were outraged with the behaviour by the Bosnian Serb entity police that continued arresting Srebrenica Bosniaks coming for identification of their relatives with the explanation that they were suspected of war crimes against local Serbs.

Last week, the Serb police arrested Midhat Salihovic, who arrived from Sweden in eastern Bosnia to attend the funeral of his fatter and brother after their bodies were exhumed from a mass grave and then identified. His brother and father were killed in the July 1995 massacre in the eastern enclave of Bosnian when Serb forces killed a few thousand Bosnian Muslims after occupying Srebrenica, which was until then a safe haven under the UN protection.

The central commemoration is set for Saturday, 11 July, at the Potocari memorial centre and cemetery outside the town of Srebrenica. Associations will make a final decision on the boycott by Thursday.

This year it is planned to bury 529 identified victims from Srebrenica and Zepa during the commemoration.

Last year the remains of 308 identified victims, most of whom had been found in a mass grave outside Zvornik, were reburied at the Potocari cemetery. The remains of over 3,200 people have been buried in Potocari so far, while over 5,000 are still unaccounted-for.
