Rijeka and the Irish city of Galway have been designated by the European Union to be the capitals of culture in 2020.
"It is important that we do not waste time as this is a very demanding project, important for Croatia's culture and government, particularly having in mind the fact that in the first half of 2020, Croatia will chair the presidency of the EU," the culture minister recalled.
Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel thanked the minister for the support from the state authorities to this end.
According to the mayor, it has been agreed that the state will set aside 10 million euro to finance the programming part of the European capital of culture project, which is a third of the total amount needed.
