The Aspira University College of Management and Design launched the first international gastronomy course in Split last year, and as of this year it will be available in Zagreb too. Thirty 30 students will be accepted in each city.
It is a three-year course and fees range from HRK 39,000 to HRK 42,000 a year, which includes all the necessary study materials and equipment, travel and practical work in foreign restaurants and hotels and other hospitality establishments. The programme involves a large number of practical sessions rather than theory.
Aspira's dean, Alen Jerkunica, and his father Milivoj opened the college and said that they decided to introduce the gastronomy course due to the growing need on the labour market for that type of personnel and the growing tourism industry with more demanding guests and employers.
"This is a well-established programme with excellent local and foreign lecturers, including many renowned domestic chefs and pastry chefs as well as economic, tourism and other experts, because the course has been designed to create cuisine artists and managers, top personnel in gastronomy and enology," Jerkunica said.
