ZAGREB, July 24, 2017 (Hina) - The European Commission has listed the traditional chestnut festival Kestenijada in the Croatian town of Hrvatska Kostajnica in its Tasting Europe map which promotes European high quality food and beverage products, the office of Croatian MEP Marijana Petir said in a press release Monday.

Hrvatska Kostajnica, a picturesque little Croatian town is inhabited by a little more than 1,000 residents. It is located along the river Una on the southeastern edge of central Croatia on the very border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Kestenijada festival was launched 20 years ago and attracts tens of thousands of people from the region and foreign visitors each year. The three-day gathering is filled with a variety of interesting entertainment which includes many dance and music performances from tamburitza orchestras and traditional folklore troupes as well as a variety of art exhibitions and medieval games, crafts and workshops. Visitors can enjoy local homemade cuisine and preparations from chestnut fruit.

The 20th edition of Kestenijada will be held on 6-8 October 2017, and a popular train called ''Kesten-cug'' (Chestnut Train) will take visitors from Zagreb to Hrvatska Kostajnica free of charge. This year's event will be held under the auspices of the Croatian Parliament and President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
