BRUSSELS, Sept 22 (Hina) - The interior ministers of the EU member states agreed by qualified majority to relocate 120,000 refugees across the European Union, at their emergency meeting in Brussels on Tuesday.
The Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia voted against, while Finland abstained.
The decision on the relocation of 120,000 people has been adopted by a large majority of member states, EU president Luxembourg announced.
Under the European Commission's proposal, the 120,000 refugees will be relocated from Greece, Italy and Hungary. However, since Hungary does not want to be a recipient of this scheme, a decision on the 54,000 people who are to be relocated from Hungary will be adopted at a later date. Instead of Hungary, this can be any other country hit by the refugee crisis.
The Commission welcomed the decision reached at the ministerial meeting.
