Addressing today's see-off ceremony for the "Sveti Dujam" boat, the national police chief Vlado Dominic, said that the first contingent of eight Croatian police officers would return from their mission in the Aegean islands of Chios and Kos on Saturday, and expressed hope that the eight-member crew of the "Sveti Dujam" would successfully continue this mission.
The Croatian boat can receive up to 50 persons on board plus its crew
Croatia plans to send a total of 37 police officers in "Poseidon Sea 2015 " this year. The operation involves 16 EU countries, as well as Albania, Ukraine, and EU agencies and international organizations. The main task of the operation is humanitarian work and assistance to immigrants who are entering Greece from Turkey on a daily basis. Croatia has been engaged in the Poseidon Sea mission since 2012.
This year, Croatia also joined in the TRITON 2015 operation rescuing migrants in the central Mediterranean where it has rescued over 1,000 migrants.
