In June alone, passenger turnover was 6.1% higher than in June 2014, with 910,000 more passengers.
The increase in the number of passengers was also owing to a 5% increase in plane operations (arrivals and departures), which in June totalled close to 12,200.
The increase in plane operations was even higher in the first six months - 8%, with 42,100 plane arrivals and departures.
Of the eight more important airports in the country, five saw an increase in the number of passengers in June, with Split Airport in the lead with 267,000 passengers, 14.4% more than in June 2014.
Zagreb Airport was second with 247,000 passengers, 1.7% more than in June last year, and Dubrovnik Airport saw a 5.1% increase, with 243,600 passengers.
Rijeka Airport saw the highest increase in the number of passengers in June, of 49.3%, with 21,100 passengers, while Osijek Airport saw an 18% increase, with slightly more than 4,000 passengers.
The airports in Zadar, Pula and Brac saw decreases in the number of passengers of 2.4%, 3.8% and 42% respectively.
The most numerous foreign passengers at Croatian airports this June were Germans, with 187,300 arrivals (up 4.5%), followed by the British, with 161,100 arrivals, an increase of 11.4%.
The number of French passengers was 61,800 or 3% more than last June, while Swedes and Norwegians were fourth and fifth with 42,000 and 40,100 arrivals, decreases of 2% and 5% respectively.
The number of Austrian passengers increased 1.6% (35,000) and the number of Spanish visitors increased by as much as 30.5% to 28,300.
Significant increases were also registered for Italian passengers (11.4%) and Dutch and Swiss visitors (52.3% and 31% respectively).
Cargo transport at Croatian airports in June increased 6.4% from the previous month to 666 tonnes. In the first six months, it went down 4.3% from the same period of last year, to 3,546 tonnes.
