On October 3, the ministry reported that Croatia would be granted EU financial aid for 4,050 tonnes of apples and 7,900 tonnes of mandarins, after the European Commission adopted a new regulation against the background of a Russian ban on imports of agricultural products, worth 165 million euros.
For each member-state, quantities were calculated on the basis of a three-year average export of certain products to Russia, with maximum quantities allowed having been calculated as well.
Croatia's Agriculture Ministry has opted for the market withdrawal of apples and mandarins, and the additional quantities allotted to Croatia (3,000 tonnes) have been added to the approved quantity for apples, making the total quantity of apples that can be withdrawn from the market amount to 4,050 tonnes. The apples and mandarins withdrawn from the market were given to social welfare centres, pre-school institutions, primary and secondary schools, hospitals, prisons and humanitarian organisations.
