Museum of Bećarac in Pleternica receives international recognition

ZAGREB, 10 Oct (Hina) - The Museum of Bećarac in Pleternica was granted the Živa Award Honourable Mention  for the promotion of intangible cultural heritage, and it was one of the five finalists for the prestigious European Luigi Micheletti Award, the Muze culture and tourism consulting agency said on Thursday.

The Živa jury, composed of thirteen museum experts from different Slavic countries and the European Museum Academy (EMA) especially pointed out the innovation and interactivity of the permanent exhibition that follows the daily life of the community and festivities through the prism of the people of Bećarac, thus encouraging the pride of the local community and its preservation.

The Živa Award has been presented for ten years by the Forum of Slavic Cultures for excellence in museum practices and encouraging cooperation between Slavic museums and heritage sites.

The Regional Museum of History Ruse in Bulgaria won the Živa Award for Best Slavic Museum, while the Živa Award for Best Slavic Heritage Site went to Bled Castle in Slovenia.

Denmark's Carl Nielsen Museum wins Luigi Micheletti Award 2024, Museum of Bećarac among five finalists

The Luigi Micheletti Awards for innovation in European museum practices were also presented.

They are given by the European Museum Academy (EMA) in cooperation with the Luigi Micheletti Foundation.

The Museum of Bećarac in Pleternica was selected as one of the five finalists for this prestigious award.

The effort in transferring the intangible heritage into a material, spatial experience and the European dimension of the Museum were particularly highlighted, since it is dedicated to a phenomenon registered on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

This year's Luigi Micheletti Award was won by the Carl Nielsen Museum in Odense, Denmark.

The Museum of Bećarac in Pleternica, opened in 2023, is dedicated to the unique vocal and instrumental genre of music from Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem. The Museum of Bećarac has grown into a popular location on the tourist map of Požega-Slavonia County.
