Exhibition on Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina staged in Split

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB,  4 Oct (Hina) - An exhibition called "The Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina- Life and History Where the East and the West Meet", which includes photographs and video recordings of BiH Croatian folklore and also the presentation of local folk costumes, was staged in Split on Thursday evening.

The author of the exhibition is Carmelite Friar Zvonko Martić, who said that about a score of photographs and video recordings of folk costumes from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina bear witness to the existence of Croats in that country for the centuries and is evidence of the continuity of that nation in BiH.

The Croats belong to the West European Catholic Church, and the Croats in BiH have been exposed to the influences from the East, said the author.

The exhibition, staged in the University Gallery in Split with the support of the Split branch of the Croatian Heritage Foundation (HMI), was formally opened by the culture minister of the BiH Croat-Bosniak Federation, Sanja Vlaisavljević, who said that the Croats in BiH continue to be committed to preserving their identity through their language, culture, tradition  and customs, in spite of all the attempts to deny their heritage and identity.
