"That will be an excellent centre of maritime culture, not just in the Mediterranean but the world. Maritime culture has always been the most important throughout history. The seas and oceans were the most important information corridor, similar to what the Internet is today. Not just with regard to their wealth and prolificacy but also in expanding civilisations. We, or rather, our Croatian culture was born in the cradle of ancient civilisation. Zadar is one of the most important elements in that regard and it deserves this notable centre. The signing of this letter of intent is the first step toward that," Neidhardt said.
The idea for this project came from academic Nikola Basic.
The museum of maritime culture will be housed in the current premises of the Zadar's maritime museum.
The museum will put an emphasis on on local maritime culture, specifically the regional maritime history, focusing on fishing culture.
