"Paska sol" is produced at the Pag salt fields in Pag Bay and its specific features result from climate conditions and a defined geographic area and the fact that the salt fields are located on isolated terrain set aside from heavy industry and farm land.
The sea water in that bay is exceptionally clean and filtered because the seabed is rich with shell fish that are natural sea cleaners and as such the water has a very low concentration of heavy metals, significantly lower than those found in the Mediterranean Sea or rather, far below acceptable norms for water quality.
The first written traces of salt being produced at the Pag salt fields dates back to the 9th century.
The Ministry of Agriculture reported in a press release that Paska Sol is the latest Croatian product to be entered into the register of protected designated origin, underscoring that Croatia now has 22 PDO products.
