Croatia's 2017 average per-capita wine consumption at 22 l

ZAGREB, March 15 (Hina) -  The average consumption of wine in Croatia in the 2016/2017 wine-growing year amounted to 22 litres per capita, the National Bureau of Statistics (DZS) said on Friday.

The total production of wine that year amounted to 760,000 hectolitres, with the most prominent wines being those labelled PDO, or Protected Designation of Origin (449,760 hectolitres or 59.2% of the total production).

Varietal wines accounted for 6.4% and other wines for 34.4% of the total production.

The DZS figures show that 295.700 hectolitres of wine were imported in 2016/2017, while the initial stock was 713,900 hectolitres.

Domestic consumption of wine amounted to 1 million hectolitres, with other wines accounting for the largest share of consumption - 50.8% or 509,999 hectolitres. The self-sufficiency rate was 76%.
