The cluster's leader and organiser of the event, Darko Markotic said that 25 exhibitors from Istria, Dalmatia, Drnis in the Zadar hinterland and the island of Krk would present their products this year.
Producers within this cluster produce around 250,000 prosciutto hams each year, which is 95% of the registered production in Croatia, yet we could produce more than 500, Markotic said.
He added that Croatia earned around 20 million euro from the sale of prosciutto each year and that they aimed to raise this figure to around 100 million euro.
According to Markotic, Croatia does not have enough pigs to produce prosciutto and so they have to be imported.
He added that negotiations were underway in the European Parliament to facilitate Croatia's exports of prosciutto on the international market.
