According to data the HGK has collected, more than 50% of Croatians will buy groceries in supermarkets, 31% will shop at local stores and 26 % will buy food at farmer's markets. People will spend approximately the same as they did last year.
The Independent Croatian Trade Unions (NHS) have drawn up three Easter baskets - modest (HRK 620), medium (HRK 1,142) and rich (1,594). The union claims that a large number of Croatians will have difficulty affording even a modest basket, let alone a medium or a rich one.
The NHS has said the Easter consumer basket is not cheaper on the year, despite a decline in prices of a large number of products. This is mostly owing to an increase in prices of the main products accounting for a large portion of the consumer basket, the NHS said.
The union also claims that 313,408 Croatians have blocked bank accounts and that 19.5% of the population are living below the poverty line.
