In 2013, ecologically cultivated farmland totalled 40,576 hectares, and 1,609 producers were engaged in that kind of farming, said Darija Muslin, an official from the Croatian agriculture ministry.
Broken down by agricultural production system, plough-fields accounted for 19,131 hectares, pastures for 14,274 hectares, orchards for 3,223 hectares and fields with aromatic and medicinal plants for 1,368 hectares of the total ecologically cultivated farmland.
The conference heard that the value of the ecological agricultural market in the European Union in 2011 totalled EUR 21.5 billion and in 2012 it was EUR 23 billion.
Croatia's ecological agricultural market was worth EUR 104 million in 2012.
