The Croatian Institute of Toxicology has also stated that the usage of imazalil does not pose a threat to consumers' health if fruits are treated with the pesticide in line with relevant rules.
The ministry notes that the fungicide imazalil, which is used to protect cereals and fruits, notably citrus fruits, is allowed in the European Union for the treatment of agricultural produce after harvesting.
The samples taken by food sanitation inspection teams so far this year, including samples of citrus fruits, are in accordance with the rules, the ministry said.
