Hollande calls on Bosnian leaders to overcome divisions

PARIS, May 28 (Hina) - French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday called on Bosnian leaders to overcome divisions and carry out the reforms necessary for their country's European Union integration, Agence France-Presse reported.

Hollande received the Bosnian leaders to learn more about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, urging them to overcome divisions and carry out the reforms that will enable Bosnia to continue towards EU and NATO membership, the Elysee Palace said in a press release.

Hollande received Bosnian Presidency Chairman Nebojsa Radmanovic and Presidency members Zeljko Komsic and Bakir Izetbegovic.

"We talked about many political issues, notably Bosnia and Herzegovina's accession to the European Union," Radmanovic said, voicing confidence that "France will support Bosnia and Herzegovina in bilateral cooperation."

Bosnia lags behind other countries in drawing closer to the European bloc. It has still not amended its Constitution following a 2009 European Court of Human Rights decision saying that it discriminates against the Roma and Jewish communities.

The current Constitution, resulting from the 1995 Dayton agreement which ended the 1992-95 war, entitles the three constituent peoples - Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats - to be elected to parliament's upper house and the three-men presidency, preventing other minorities and citizens from being elected to those bodies.
