Bosnian PM comments on US official's criticism

SARAJEVO, May 21 (Hina) - The Bosnian Croat parties HDZ BiH and HDZ 1990 are not to blame for the current political obstacles in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Philip Reeker's criticism of them is unfounded, Council of Ministers Chairman Vjekoslav Bevanda (HDZ BiH) said on Tuesday.

"The two HDZ parties are really not obstructing anything. If this is another clip around the ears to the two HDZ parties, I can understand it, but I see no reason for it," Bevanda told reporters.

Reeker said in Sarajevo earlier today that HDZ BiH president Dragan Covic and HDZ 1990 president Bozo Ljubic were responsible for the blockade of the application of a European Court of Human Rights ruling under which Bosnia must eliminate discrimination against ethnic minorities in elections.

Reeker said the cause of the blockade was the unreasonable and undemocratic position of Covic and Ljubic that their parties must be guaranteed the election of one member in the tripartite state Presidency.

Enforcing the ruling is a requirement which Bosnia must meet to activate a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the European Union and apply for membership candidate status.
