The IDS wants to build, it does not want to demolish, bearing in mind the extremely difficult situation the country is in, because breaking up the coalition isn't what citizens expect of us, Jakovcic said after Tourism Minister Veljko Ostojic resigned earlier today.
"Citizens expect a responsible running of the state and the IDS is one of those parties that wants to responsibly participate in the government at any level. Destabilising the country certainly isn't the IDS policy," he said, adding that the IDS would nominate a new tourism minister by Easter.
Changes in the ruling coalition are definitely necessary and this is an opportunity for serious talks on a government reshuffle, said Jakovcic.
"Citizens expected a lot from us, we haven't achieved a lot," he said, adding that the government needed a new programme for the country's future and that "the IDS wants to participate in the government in a way that will lead to positive changes in the country."
The coalition partners must communicate, the government must communicate with unions, interest groups and non-governmental organisations, Jakovcic said, adding that Croatia "needs new trends because the majority of citizens think that it is going in the wrong direction."
"We are not leaving the coalition, we are a responsible party, we want to take responsibility for the future of this country. The IDS is not indispensable, we are aware of our size but I'm certain that we can make contribute to a change in trends," Jakovcic said, adding that he expected Milanovic's invitation to talks on the future of the coalition.
He praised Ostojic for his performance as tourism minister, saying his resignation was proof of "courage, responsibility and principles in politics."
Jakovcic said the IDS had not discussed a candidate for the new minister of tourism.
