Ostojic fourth minister to leave Milanovic cabinet

ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - Veljko Ostojic of the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) is the fourth minister to resign since the Croatian parliament voted for the Zoran Milanovic Cabinet 15 months ago.

Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Zlatko Komadina resigned last April, citing health problems.

Environment and Nature Protection Minister Mirela Holy resigned last June, citing in a letter to the prime minister that she was doing so after causing political damage to the government with an injudicious letter to the CEO of the HZ Holding company. Milanovic said on that occasion he was sorry about the resignation, but that his government would abide by the standards it had set.

Radimir Cacic resigned last November as deputy PM and economy minister after a Hungarian court sentenced him to 22 months in prison for causing a traffic accident in Hungary in 2010 in which two people were killed.

Ostojic, whose resignation Milanovic accepted today, said he had resigned under pressure caused by unfounded accusations and an extensive campaign against him that prevented him from doing his job in the professional manner set by him and his team at the Tourism Ministry.

He resigned after the media reported that the State Prosecutor's Office was investigating the sale of an attractive piece of land near the coastal resort of Rovinj, whose value rose from HRK 1 million to 25 million after urbanisation, and in whose purchase, urbanisation and sale Ostojic was involved.

A few days ago, he said that his wife and sister-in-law founded a company 20 years ago and that his sister-in-law bought the land in question in 2004.
