Party chief expects HDZ's resurgence after local elections

OPATIJA, Jan 20 (Hina) - Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Tomislav Karamarko said in Opatija on Sunday the strongest opposition party expected a quality step forward in upcoming local elections and that there were no disagreements that could affect the party's stability.

Speaking to the press after a two-day party meeting, Karamarko said the HDZ attached a lot of attention to preparations for the local elections which he said would mark the party's return and resurgence.

He said a programme for the polls was promoted at the Opatija meeting, adding that it would be activated and presented at the most opportune moment, including the economic programme.

He said the meeting also discussed the economy.

Karamarko went on to say that he was satisfied with the unity within the party, and accused the incumbent government of "unbearable" incompetence. He said the HDZ had an answer to everything the government did not.

Tonight, the party's Main Committee is holding a session.
