CROATIA'S FOREIGN INVESTMENTS WORTH 413 MILLION KUNA

ZAGREB, Aug 13 (Hina) - Croatian firms invested abroad a total of 413 million dollars in the period from 1993 until the end of March this year. Over two thirds of Croatian investments went into two countries, Poland which accounted for some 39 percent and Bosnia-Herzegovina (over 28 percent).
ZAGREB, Aug 13 (Hina) - Croatian firms invested abroad a total of 413 million dollars in the period from 1993 until the end of March this year. Over two thirds of Croatian investments went into two countries, Poland which accounted for some 39 percent and Bosnia-Herzegovina (over 28 percent).#L# Of the said amount, about 380 million dollars were capital investments, the Croatian National Bank (HNB) reported. One half of Croatian investments abroad went into the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. Above 10 percent of direct capital investment was appropriated in telecommunications, and 6.8 percent in financial transactions. 1997 was record high when Croatian companies invested 171 million abroad. It was followed by 1998 with 76 million. In 2000, Croatian investments abroad came to some 26 million. In the first three months of this year, Croatian companies invested some 6.3 million in other countries. After Poland and Bosnia, the third ranked country on this list is Slovenia where 8.4 percent of Croatian investments went. It was followed with Hungary (3.2 percent). In addition, there are some countries known as tax havens where Croatian business people like to invest such as Antigua and Barbuda (3.3 percent), St.Vincent and the Grenadines (2.8 percent) and Panama (2.3 percent).
