ZAGREB, July 18 (Hina) - Foreigners invested 65.1 million US dollars in Croatia in the first three months of 2001, according to the latest figures published by the country's central bank. Of it, $29.2 million accounted for capital
investment and $38.3 million for other kinds of investments.

According to the Croatian National Bank's (HNB) latest report, the
largest share (17.74) percent of the capital investment went for
the publishing of newspapers, and in the first quarter of 2001
foreigners invested about 11.5 million dollars in the media
publishing.
This was a results of the fact that following some legal obstacles
in 2000, Austria's Styria became the majority owner of the Croatian
daily with the highest circulation 'Vecernji List' in February this
year, when Styria announced additional investments in this
newspaper.
According to the HNB, the second-ranked sector with foreign
investments was the purchase and sale of real assets (with 15.41
percent of the foreign investments in the first three months), and
it as followed by the production of crude oil and gas (14.61
percent).
According to statistical figures, Croatia received 4.8 billion
dollars of foreign investments from 1993 to the end of the first
quarter of 2001. In that period, 3.8 billion dollars were capital
investments. The largest share of foreign investments, i.e. 23.18
percent went for telecommunications. About one fifth (20.53
percent) of 3.8 billion was invested in financial transactions, and
18.85 percent in the manufacturing of medicines.
