RTRS-Australian wool outlook remains positive
SYDNEY, Aug 19 (Reuter) - Australian wool prices are
expected to stabilise this week with the largest offering of the
season, 95,084 bales being on offer in Sydney, Adelaide and
Fremantle, pastrol group Wesfarmers Dalgety said.
"The outlook remains positive despite possible
stabilisation", Wesfarmers said. "This is the largest offering
for the season to date and in a predominantly supply driven
environment, this is expected to have a stabilising influence."
But Wesfarmers said fine wools will be in short supply given
these prices continued strength and further dividing the market.
"Beyond this week, the roster returns to limited quantities
for the short term (prior to new season wools entering the
market) suggesting further upward movement, a trend strongly
supported by the futures market," Wesfarmers said.
The eastern market indicator rose 10 cents to 612/kg clean.
A total of 59,112 bales were offered, with 7.8 percent
passed in. In the futures market for the week ended August 15, a
total of 204 contracts were traded. Open interest fell by 47
contracts to close at 607. The August 1996 contract closed 14
cents up at 747 cents/kg clean. The October contract closed 23
cents up at 762 cents/kg clean. -- Sydney Newsroom 61-2 373-1800

Bradford wool market brighter as holidays near end
BRADFORD, Aug 19 (Reuter) - The Bradford wool market
received an end-of-holiday boost as both domestic and export
demand improved, led by blended tops, brokers reported on
Monday.
The number of forward contracts was up with some buyers
placing orders several months in advance, they said.
Although prices remained comparatively low, there were signs
that sellers are beginning to resist uncompetitive bids, they
added.
The supply of South American blended tops is beginning to
recover after a long spell of weakness related to cancelled
orders originally placed by China, one source said.
Most top quotations were unchanged in advance of the next
Australian auction, brokers said.
