Copper found some light pressure from cash selling, though never looked like moving to strong underlying support at $1,900, while nickel on chart based buying probed above $7,400 only to slip back under profit-taking. Traders said the earlier LME stocks failed to inspire any significant market moves as the movements were largely within market expectations. Copper spreads held little changed levels, with the cash to three months backwardation settling at around $38. Benchmark three months delivery copper was unchanged at Thursday's close of $1,935. Buy-stops and light speculative interest following recent constructive chart closes saw nickel end the morning at $7,405, up on its close of $7,360 but just below its high of $7,450. Some traders and analysts see further gains. "In clearing the $7,320 level nickel has formed a base which should support a rise to the $7,650 region at least," Elli Gifford of Investment Research of Cambridge said. Aluminium was quiet holding just above support at $1,480. It was last at $1,483, a loss of $4. Lead was last quoted at $816, against $818.
