Palm oil prices were supported by higher markets in Asia following the release in the early hours of the European morning of PORLA's end-July palm oil production, stocks and export data. Asian traders saw the figures as friendly, but their European counterparts were more cautious. "It's no good just looking at last month's figures. Compared with last year output is well up and likely to get higher while exports are no more than routine," said one. Malaysia's Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority (PORLA) put end-July crude palm oil output at 721,893 tonnes, up 0.05 percent from the end-June figure of 721,544 and against 677,293 tonnes in July 1995. July palm oil exports were 646,017 tonnes against 579,372 in June and 565,208 in July last year. Local stocks fell 2.49 percent to 754,634 tonnes at end-July from 773,920 at end-June and compared with 599,870 tonnes at end-July 1995, it said. Crude palm oil and RBD palm oil closed unchanged to $5 up while olein was $2.50 to $10 higher. Traders said there was little outright trading in crude palm oil, but there were a number of three-way switches with olein. Coconut oil attracted some dealer trading during the European afternoon with July/Aug trading at $795, Aug/Sep at $775, Sep/Oct at $745 and Oct/Nov at $735 a tonne with closing sellers $5 to $10 down on the day. Dutch soy oil closed mixed at 0.50 guilders down to 0.50 guilders up after Aug fetched 95 and Sep 95.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Dutch/EU rape oil finished unchanged to 1.25 guilders higher after Nov/Jan traded at 98.75 and Feb/Apr at 100 guilders.
