Chicago soybean futures jumped despite a neutral to bearish USDA crop report with sentiment influenced by a limit-up opening in the corn pit where the report was seen bullish. The USDA put soy production at 2.3 billion bushels, above analysts' average estimates of 2.264 billion. "No one understands what's going on because on the face of it soybeans should be lower, but Chicago has not traded on supply and demand for some time now," said a trader. Palm oil prices were also underpined by India's tender for olein. India's State Trading Corporation (STC) was seeking 12,000 tonnes of palm olein for September 5-20 shipment. Traders said the STC had bought at $522.50 a tonne c and f but they were not sure of the amount. "India is keeping very quiet these day's about how much it's buying and the price," said a trader. At the close of business crude palm oil cif Europe was $10 up after Sep traded at $490 and Oct at $500 a tonne cif. RBD palm oil was $15 up while olein was $17.50 to $15 higher. Coconut oil finished $7.50 to $15 up after Jul/Aug traded at $790 and Sep/Oct at $750 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil was $5 up to unchanged and tradeless. Dutch soy oil closed 2.75 to 2.50 guilders higher after Sep traded at 93.25 and 93.50 while rape oil was 2.75 to two guilders up after 98 guilders was paid for Nov/Jan a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
