In principal demand have been various Mediterranean crops, which are now poised to move to market in volume. Greek and Spanish have been mentioned amongst the more competitively priced cottons on offer. The customary discounts enjoyed in recent years by buyers of Central Asian cottons have not so far this season been available. Despite a fairly good underlying demand, the volume of fresh business concluded has probably been limited, as many spinners take a bearish view of the raw cotton market over the next few months and therefore see no benefit in covering more than a part of their forward shipment needs. 131020 MET oct 97
