Zinc was also boosted by hot money, but forward selling tipped prices from their highs. In aluminium, covering by players short of options, investment house buying and fund activity are mainly behind the recent jump in prices to fresh 22-month highs, traders said. Three months aluminium hit a peak of $1,762 per tonne in pre-market trading, a $200 or 13 percent rise over the past three weeks. It ended the morning kerb at $1,758, a $16.50 gain from Wednesday's close. The cash/threes spread widened as borrowers bid it up in the first ring. It traded at a $15 backwardation compared to $5/$10 indicated at Wednesday's close. October/threes came out $2 to a $5/$6 back. "It's gone beyond the fundamentals, everyone's a bit wary at these heights," one floor trader said. Another added: "People are concerned the market is overbought and have tight stops, but when more buying came in this morning, they had to join in." The 14-day relative strength index was at 76 on Thursday morning, above the 70 level regarded as overbought. Zinc climbed to a high of $1,557 on bank buying, the strongest since prices plummeted $300 last week from a seven-year high of $1,675. With the backwardation holding up and prices at more reasonable levels, speculative money feels comfortable entering the market in the run-up to a squeeze in September, traders said. But forward trade selling knocked prices back, ending the kerb at $1,539, a gain of $11. Copper joined the party, gaining $16 to $2,314, breaking through resistance at $2,310. The 10-day and 30-day moving averages at $2,320 and $2,328 respectively, however, may inhibit further rises, chartists noted. The cash/threes backwardation, which came in on Wednesday to the narrowest since last October, widened about $7 to $27/$33. Lead, which sunk to 22-month lows of $603 on Tuesday, recovered to $618, a gain of $12 from Wednesday. Nickel consolidated at lower levels after Monday's losses, finishing the kerb $50 firmer at $7,210. Tin added $10 to $5,600 while alloy shadowed the primary market and moved up to $1,540/48 from $1,530. _________________________________________________________________ STANJE LME ZALIHA NA DAN - 07.08.1997. - po pojedinim skladištima _________________________________________________________________ ++ COPPER WIRE BARS + ANTWERP 50 HAMBURG 25 ++ COPPER CATHODES + ANTWERP 2650 DUNKIRK 1400 BREMEN 1175 HAMBURG 9300 ROTTERDAM 12575 LEGHORN 175 TRIESTE 11175 BARCELONA 625 BILBAO 15175 GOTHENBURG 17675 HELSINBORG 11150 LIVERPOOL 9725 CHICAGO 125 LONG BEACH 67825 LOS ANGELE 16975 ST LOUIS 5925 SINGAPORE 62050 ++ TIN ++ ANTWERP 10 HAMBURG 115 ROTTERDAM 6075 GENOA 235 BILBAO 40 HULL 265 LIVERPOOL 4445 BALTIMORE 170 LOS ANGELE 95 ++ LEAD ++ HAMBURG 275 ROTTERDAM 2025 GENOA 6975 BARCELONA 100 GOTHENBURG 14075 HELSINBORG 80550 GOOLE 2000 HULL 675 LIVERPOOL 2850 NEWCASTLE 975 SUNDERLAND 75 DETROIT 750 ++ ZINC + ANTWERP 9250 DUNKIRK 100 BREMEN 350 HAMBURG 250 ROTTERDAM 81150 PIRAEUS 275 GENOA 19925 TRIESTE 118050 BARCELONA 13000 BILBAO 10650 GOTHENBURG 10375 HELSINBORG 62750 LIVERPOOL 12025 CHICAGO 200 ST LOUIS 9925 SINGAPORE 50625 ++ NICKEL ++ ANTWERP 1008 ROTTERDAM 39210 GENOA 288 TRIESTE 42 GOTHENBURG 13008 LIVERPOOL 72 NEW HAVEN 120 SINGAPORE 1386 ++ ALUMINI M ++ ANTWERP 425 ROTTERDAM 23600 TRIESTE 175 GOTHENBURG 26350 HELSINBORG 118775 AVONMOUTH 27175 HULL 120400 LIVERPOOL 163125 NEWCASTLE 92325 SUNDERLAND 45325 DETROIT 50 HAKATA 50 MOJI 50 SINGAPORE 5800 ++ ALUMINIUM ALLOY ++ ANTWERP 3900 DUNKIRK 260 DUISBERG 500 HAMBURG 440 ROTTERDAM 1380 BRESCIA 1080 GENOA 7400 TRIESTE 2880 BARCELONA 60 BILBAO 1480 GOTHENBURG 220 HULL 500 LIVERPOOL 22020 CHICAGO 2420 DETROIT 740 LONG BEACH 8860 ST LOUIS 1200 SINGAPORE 60 _________________________________________________________________ STANJE LME ZALIHA NA DAN 07. kolovoza 1997. količine su u tonama _________________________________________________________________ COPPER 245775 UP 800 TIN 11450 UP 145 LEAD 119625 DOWN 50 ZINC 398900 DOWN 25 ALUMINIUM 623625 DOWN 1400 NICKEL 55134 UP 294 AL.ALLOY 55400 UNCH NGED STOCK IN OUT COPPER wire bars 75 0 0 COPPER cathodes 245700 1025 225 TIN 11450 205 60 LEAD 119625 0 50 ZINC 398900 1025 1050 NICKEL briquettes 4284 0 0 NICKEL cathodes 50814 432 138 NICKEL pellets 36 0 0 STOCK IN OUT ALUMINIUM ingots 275200 0 775 ALUMINIUM T-bars 200350 0 450 ALUMINIUM sows 148075 0 175 AL.ALLOY D12S/JIS 400 0 0 AL.ALLOY 226/DIN 30980 100 0 AL.ALLOY A380.1 24020 0 100 LME - warehouse stock movements LONDON, Aug 07 - Latest LME warehouse stock changes are: copper up 800, tin up 145, lead down 50, zinc down 25, aluminium down 1400, nickel up 294, aluminium alloy unchanged 071549 MET aug 97
