This was the highest level since late August 1995. Merino fleece was dearer, with 19/21 microns slightly dearer, 20m 0.5 percent dearer, 22/24m 1.5 percent dearer, and 23/25/26m two percent dearer. Merino skirtings were up to two percent dearer. In crossbreds, 27/28/29m were up to two percent dearer, with 30/31m 1.5 percent dearer, with crossbred skirtings one percent dearer. In cardings, lambs were unchanged, locks one percent dearer, and crutchings slightly dearer. WI said Japanese interests including China were principal buyers with good support from Western Europe. Of the 24,068 bales offered, 4.7 percent were passed in. Sales continue next week in Sydney, Adelaide and Fremantle with about 77,000 bales to be offered. _________________________________________________________________ Bradford - cijene vune - 24. srpnja 1997. cijene u penijima/kg _________________________________________________________________ MERINO CROSSBRED 70s SUPER 533 58s SUPER 378 66s SUPER 484 58s BLENDED 357 64s SUPER 423 56s SUPER 352 64s BLENDED 417 54s CARDED 331 60s SUPER 391 50s CARDED 325 60s BLENDED 379 58s ENGLISH 264 56s ENGLISH 255 50s ENGLISH 250 Bradford market see lower prices for British wool LONDON, July 24 (Reuter) - Lower pices were paid for British wool at this week's Bradford auction, the first to be held for a month. Declines of up to 5 pence a kg were said to be due to the sterling adjustment, and the trade was reasonably satisfied that no weakness in the crossbred wool market was being signalled. At the merino end of the market values will be tested next week in Australia and the general impression in Bradford and Europe is that the firmer tendency at closing sales before the recess will still apply. Sydney futures prices are followed with interest, whether or not the firms involved actually trade on them and the tendency during during the past two to three weeks has been definitley firmer. Locally holidays are the main reason given for the lack of business. If prices are mentioned at all, they are very cornpetitive indeed. Anyone with export interests, and this applies more or less to the entire industry, is increasingly worried about the rise in the sterling exchange rate. 280901 MET jul 97
