This was the highest level since late August 1995. Merino fleece was dearer, with 19/21 microns slightly dearer, 20m 0.5 percent dearer, 22/24m 1.5 percent dearer, and 23/25/26m two percent dearer. Merino skirtings were up to two percent dearer. In crossbreds, 27/28/29m were up to two percent dearer, with 30/31m 1.5 percent dearer, with crossbred skirtings one percent dearer. In cardings, lambs were unchanged, locks one percent dearer, and crutchings slightly dearer. WI said Japanese interests including China were principal buyers with good support from Western Europe. Of the 24,068 bales offered, 4.7 percent were passed in. Sales continue next week in Sydney, Adelaide and Fremantle with about 77,000 bales to be offered. _________________________________________________________________ Bradford - cijene vune - 10. srpnja 1997. cijene u penijima/kg _________________________________________________________________ MERINO CROSSBRED 70s SUPER 532 58s SUPER 380 66s SUPER 483 58s BLENDED 359 64s SUPER 421 56s SUPER 353 64s BLENDED 419 54s CARDED 332 60s SUPER 390 50s CARDED 325 60s BLENDED 380 58s ENGLISH 270 56s ENGLISH 260 50s ENGLISH 255 Bradford wool market finds scant buyer interest BRADFORD, July 10 (Reuter) - Scant buying interest was reported, largely due to the onset of the main holiday season, affecting UK wool textile districts for a couple of weeks at a time and countries in Continental Europe normally for a month at a time. July and August are affected and for the industry there is inevitable distortion not just in the chance to obtain new orders, but in planning activity and deliveries to fit in with holidays whether by the individual firm or its customers and suppliers. Prices change mainly when currency changes. Strength in sterling involved some reductions recently, but Thursday's quarter-point rise in interest rates is being followed by greater calmness. Wool International's pricing of its stockpile influences the trade and with no change in Australian currency terms the raw material end remains static. Wool prices ended the season firm but with no obvious short-term tendency. The industry in the UK is very concerned about the effect of sterling strength on exports, but for the time being deliveries have been going out well and most firms remain busy and well-booked. 111047 MET jul 97
