Early speculative selling was met with trade scale-down buying that lifted the December contract off the low of 73.76 cents. Local buying later in the day carried the contract towards unchanged as volume thinned. The December contract ended down 0.04 cent 74.20 cents per lb, having ranged from 74.32 to 73.76 cents. The rest of the board finished 0.06 lower to 0.40 cent higher. Analysts said December should drift in a range between 75.00 cents and 72.00 cents in the near term. Players await Thursday's weekly export and sales report, which is expected to show brisk sales were made last week, when the market fell to recent contract lows. An estimated 5,000 lots changed hands on the day compared with Monday's official 16,563 lots. 171015 MET jul 97
