They said, however, activity was uneventful, with market participants focused on squaring their books ahead of the three-day U.S. holiday weekend. NYCE will be closed on Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr Day. Benchmark March cotton rose 0.21 cent per lb to 66.18 cents, after ranging between 66.20 and 65.85 cents. May closed 0.22 firmer at 67.59 cents, while the remaining months were unchanged to up 0.17 cent. Some traders said an improved financial picture in Asia, where stocks in major markets rose Friday, helped buoy sentiment. "The Asian markets helped, but there was little follow-through," said a trader. Technically, traders said March continued to face resistance at chart gap between 66.40 and 66.70 cents. Support was seen toward its life-of-contract low of 65.20 cents. Volume reached an estimated 5,000 lots, down from Thursday's official tally of 6,702 lots. 191038 MET jan 98
