US ambassador to Kosovo says Serbian platform impedes dialogue

PRISTINA, Dec 29 (Hina) - Serbia's platform for Kosovo impedes Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, United States Ambassador to Kosovo Tracey Ann Jacobson said in an interview with Voice of America's Albanian edition released on Saturday.

She said it was extremely important for Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci to consult representatives of the Serb community in Kosovo prior to any meeting with Serbian PM Ivica Dacic.

Jacobson said the US government was focused on the dialogue taking place in Brussels under the European Union's aegis and that Kosovo's government was focused on that too. She said some good results had been achieved this year and hopes agreement on some important matters will be reached in 2013.

Any other initiative, such as the platform, is an impediment, said the ambassador.

She hopes the dialogue will lead to a normalisation of Serbia-Kosovo relations. She said the dialogue was on the track of a solution that would bring the country stability, foreign investment and economic development, and positive changes in the life of the people who she said had, in a way, become hostages to this situation.

Jacobson said the US was very proud of its role in Kosovo's progress, its long-standing partnership with Kosovo, the good relations and cooperation with the minorities in Kosovo, and of its projects related to local government.

The ambassador said the US would continue to help and support Kosovo in the years ahead and that she did not expect the funds for this purpose to be considerably reduced. She said the US commitment to Kosovo was the result of a consensus between Congress and the administration, as the US saw Kosovo as a big investment.
